A lot has been written for saturn and lots of them is correct also. The only thing I would like to add is that saturn is directed related to karma. The kind of karma it will force you to do in this life are directed by saturn's condition in the chart. If it is nicely placed it will bestow you the results with relatively less efforts. On the other hands, if it is miserable, it will make your life miserable. You will have to work hard, that too in terrible conditions to get the results.
Saturn is karma and Jupiter is blessings. When they jointly affect specific house/significations, results fructify.
That's the reason astrologers always closely focus on Saturn's and Jupiter's aspects. They mean a lot for energy levels and dynamics of a chart.
People are scared of facing miseries, delayed results of their efforts, odd circumstances, humiliations and these are the reasons they fear saturn most.
